Rebecca LaFountain will present a holistic, biopsychosocial Adlerian approach for working with children and adolescents experiencing trauma. This approach takes into account that children and adolescents experience trauma in their own unique, individual way based on where they are in terms of development, how they perceive the situation, how their life style plays a part in their coping, and the resources within their social context. Additionally, this approach will be applied to two case studies.
Educational Objectives — Attendees will learn:
1. How to use a holistic approach to assess children & adolescents experiencing
2. How to use a holistic approach to treat children & adolescents experiencing trauma.
This presentation was given as a Key Note Address at the 2011 Congress of the International Association of Adlerian Psychology in Vienna, Austria.
Presenter: Dr. Rebecca LaFountain is an assistant professor in the department of Psychology at Penn State-Harrisburg. She is a licensed psychologist and has a part-time practice in Hershey called Counseling on West Chocolate. She is a Diplomate in Adlerian Psychology, the Vice President of the International Association of Individual Psychology, and a board member of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, serving as Conference Coordinator and formerly held the position of Executive Director. She is the founder of the Central PA Society of Adlerian Psychology.
Continuing Education Credits: Two (2) hours of Continuing Education available. This program is co-sponsored by the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP) and by the NASW-PA, SW Division. WPSAP is an affiliate of The North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP). NASAP, as a co-sponsor of this workshop, maintains responsibility for all content. NASAP is recognized by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors (NCC) and by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for psychologists. We adhere to NBCC and APA Continuing Education Guidelines.” NASAP maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Application has been made to NASW-PA, SW Division for continuing education. WPSAP is also an approved provider for Act 48 credits for the PA Dept. of Education. There is no fee for attendance. There is a nominal charge of $15.00 to process CEs for NASW- PA, SW Division.
