USING MEMORABLE OBSERVATIONS IN FAMILY COUNSELING

FRANCIS X. WALTON, PH.D.

A systematic approach to family counseling based upon the Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler will be presented.  The primary means of teaching the workshop will be through a live counseling demonstration with a family requesting help.  The workshop will also include lecture and experiential activities, including use of the most memorable observation, and group discussion.

FRANCIS X. WALTON, PH.D.

CONSULTING PSYCHOLOGIST, COLUMBIA, SC

Dr. Walton is a licensed psychologist who was in private practice for over forty years. He is a member of the faculty of The International Adlerian Summer Institute and has been a consultant to schools and agencies across North America and Europe as well as Japan and China.

 

Schedule

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM To help participants increase their knowledge of family counseling theory including the teleological nature of behavior, the influence of superiority/inferiority relationships, and the holistic interpretation of behavior.

30 Minute Break

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM To help participants be able to apply family counseling techniques including systematic
exploration of family interaction and use of the most memorable observation as a means of increasing parent’s knowledge of their belief system as it related to their choice of parenting style.
